Trepang Road, Humpty Doo

A beautiful rural house turned into a stunning family home. This extension included, a huge open plan living and kitchen area with elegant finishes, a magnificent deck complete with a full outdoor kitchen and smart laundry.

With the Humpty Doo family of five ‘living on top of each other’, the challenging brief included more family living space and seamlessly blending old with new, all while the family continuously lived in the home.

DN Building delivered with innovative tropical design, turning the existing kitchen into a fourth bedroom, the living room into a play area and adding a new laundry and toilet.

The expansive living area and new kitchen with waterfall-edge Caesarstone benchtops spills out onto an 81 sqm deck complete with a full custom-built outdoor kitchen. Its centrepiece is an original timber beam from the Seventh Avenue Bridge in Maylands, Western Australia, built in 1913.

Existing buildings were re-cladded and painted so the three stages blend together seamlessly. All steel work was painted with 2-pack paint, and Bluetooth speakers were fitted throughout the ceilings. DN Building also opted for double insulation—air cell roof blankets as well as bulk R2-5 ceiling insulation—to keep the house cool.

The result is the clients’ dream home, with a huge outdoor space giving the family their longed-for space and satisfying their love of outdoor bush living.

This incredible transformation took just five months, and Dave and his team were careful to blend the old with the new, re-cladding and painting the existing building so the three different stages blend together seamlessly.
